In some churches, the Children’s ministry is often overlooked or even thought to be free childcare so adults can learn and grow spiritually in peace.  The truth is, Children’s ministry is one of the most important ministries in a church!  At a young age, we begin learning how to develop relationships, learning right and wrong, and slowly building the foundation of the person we will soon become.

These past several months, we have really focused on the importance of relationships and how God created us not to be lonely but to lean on one another.  In the Children’s ministry, we not only focus on teaching the word of God but also help kids develop the basic skills of how to have healthy relationships.  When kids learn how to share a toy, express emotions verbally rather than having a melt down every time they get upset, or how to forgive someone who accidently hit them while playing, they are not just learning how to “behave” but how God wants us to live with and love one another!

When children come to the ministry, we have no way of knowing what their life is really like outside of the church.  Do they come from a happy family who constantly shows them how loved they are or a broken home where they are shown no form of love or affection? No matter where they come from, the Children’s ministry allows kids to come to a place where they receive unconditional love and understanding.  I truly believe that working with kids is not a right but a God given privilege that we should take great pride in because we get to help shape the way a child gets to know Christ! So much more than free childcare, don’t you think?
